First day of class and I'm near the top of the waiting list! Woohoo! Everyone have a good summer? Good.

So the first thing any self-respecting english major does at the beginning of the semester is take their book list to Wilson Ave. Books and purchase from the local independent bookstore. Did you pay 2 dollars for The Oresteia? (note: study questions at the bottom of the page) Well, I'm happy. I saved roughly 30 dollars by purchasing books there instead of at the bookstore.

And how's this for coincidence? Dr. Sexson mentions The Great McGinty in class. I bought a used book(in honor of the beginning of the semester I always buy something I want to read that there may be compatition with what I must read for class) and it referenced The Great McGinty. The Godfather Papers, by Mario Puzo, a book writen to avoid the unwelcomed questions caused by his absurdly famous book The Godfather, contains a quote from The Great McGinty.

A character in The Great McGinty says, "If you didn't have graft, you'd get a
very low grade of person in politics." When the gentle Thoreau heard that
the Massachusetts legislature had conveniend, he told a friend, "I must
hurry to town to buy a lock for my pack door."(p 73)

So school has started off with an interesting coincidence. And here's a google link for "The Great McGinty"

Edit: Wow. Later on in my book Finnegans Wake was mentioned. Apparently, the husband of the typist burned the last 50 pages of the manuscript and the publisher had to type it out himself(from his own copy). That's what the story reads.
